As part of the renewal of an old track around Nîmes (line 800 000 and line 810 000), the SNCF commissioned Sol Solution to determine the granulometry of the ballast layer (ballast + fine particles).

During this study, analyses were carried out on two types of samples:

Fully recycled ballast: a sample comprising only the old ballast, which was then rapidly screened and placed back on the track.

Partially recycled ballast: a sample comprising a mixture of old and new ballast.

During the 11 weeks of work, 69 samples were taken from more than 25 kilometres of track on the two combined lines.
