In Laos, the Nam Theun 2 dam and its hydropower plant is the largest hydropower project in Southeast Asia. It is a 1,070-megawatt dam on the Nam Theun River (a tributary of the Mekong), designed to supply electricity to this region of Laos, and particularly neighbouring Thailand. It is led by a Laotian consortium: the Nam Theun 2 Power Company (NTPC).

SOL SOLUTION was commissioned to train NTPC's Civil Engineering team to carry out compaction control and geotechnical diagnostics using the PANDA® dynamic penetrometer for earth dams.

Reinforcement and safe widening of a dyke. Clay fill material (AASHTO classification type A7-5 - GTR classification type A3) compacted with a target of 95% NPO.

Diagnosis of a syphon zone - carrying out penetrometric drillings on the crest of dykes over several meters deep with detection of pathogenic zones (dynamic resistances lower than 1 MPa).
